Here is a beautiful object difficult to find. According to Jacqueline Bellanger, in her book "Verses d'usage et de prestige", which shows 5 of them from different museums, (see our last photos), these charming pieces of glassware are mostly South of France, Provence , Languedoc...
from translucent glass, jug rests on a foot hemmed with wound glass threads, bulbous body is blown with visible ribs, the neck surrounded by ripples, thick rim. Small heat-welded side handle, in stretched glass with toothed ribbon, which catches up with the large upper handle on which a bird perches, (unfortunately incomplete), worked with pliers. Small beak hemmed, of stretched glass, going deep into belly.
Rare object, of good quality, France, 18th century...
Dimensions: 20cm x 15cm, D: 11cm. Weight: 300gr.
Condition is quite good, but as also visible on the museum pieces presented, some concerns: for this jug: a small crack in neck near handle, (about 1.8cm), 2 minimal chips on the edge of the foot , incomplete bird, (red arrows). What appears to be a crack on the foot is in fact a filament of glass in relief escaped from the fire... Take a good look at our photos.....
