"Gustav Schmidtcassel - Chryselephantine, Harlequin"
Art Deco polychrome chryselephantine bronze sculpture of a Harlequin, circa 1920 signed on its base. Gustav Schmidt-Cassel studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin with Ernst Herter, whose assistant he became and whose studio he later took over. He traveled to Italy, Paris and Russia. In the 1920s, he created sculptures of exotic dancers in the Art Deco style, with beautifully detailed costumes.
