Paul DUBOIS - "Le courage militaire", sculpture in gilded bronze, it is signed P. DUBOIS on the back and F. BARBEDIENNE FONDEUR on the terrace with the Collas mechanical reduction stamp, cast from the end of the 19th century, small loss on the guard of the sword. Paul Dubois (1827-1905) Son of a notary, he first studied law then attracted by sculpture, entered the School of Fine Arts in Paris in 1858, he stayed there for a year and then spent four years in Italy, notably in Rome and Florence, the Florentine sculpture of the Renaissance will definitely mark his art. He began at the 1857 salon but it was in 1864 with his Saint Jean Baptiste Enfant and the following year his Florentine singer medal of honor that he would obtain glory, other major works will follow, including the four bronze statues which adorn the corners of General de la Moricière's cenotaph, finished in 1879 in Nantes cathedral, ''Le courage militaire'' is one of his four works.
