"Jacques Van Coppenolle (1878 - 1915) Rare Impressionist Plate In Majolica Art Faience From Marlotte Bézard Et Mousseux Montigny-sur-loing"
Rare Marlotte art earthenware plate produced by Bézard et Mousseux and representing an animated view of Montigny-Sur-Loing with a horse pulling a cart and a peasant on the right. Its impressionist decor with slip was painted by Jacques Van Coppenolle who, like his father Edmond van Coppenolle, was a renowned painter and worked as a painter-decorator at the pottery factory of Montigny-sur-Loing and nearby Marlotte. He particularly excelled in the decorations of impressionist landscapes of the Loing valley and our painting is a fine example. This rare plate is highlighted by a very beautiful frame of the time in stucco and gilded wood with channels provided with a Marie-louise in rosewood from rio, treatment rare and precious enough to be noted. The plate is fixed to the frame with very small slightly oxidized nails and it is therefore likely that it is the original assembly. Signed "Coppenolle" lower left and handwritten mark incised under cover on the reverse in capital letter BM MARLOTTE SM for Bézard and Mousseux Marlotte Seine et Marne. Production period of the Workshop between 1902 and 1916. A careful examination will reveal a slight iridescence of the material denoting a wood firing. Dimensions: Plate only: 16.6 cm x 22 cm With its frame: 29.5 cm x 35 cm The plate is in very good condition. The frame has slight signs of age.
