"Mandau Saber Handle – Borneo Island / Indonesia"
Mandau saber hilt in antler, with a sumptuous blond patina, exceptional for its chiseled decoration. We see, on both sides of the object, a dual character: male on one side and female on the other. This very figurative representation is inserted in a decor of volutes typical of Dayak compositions. Two strands of animal silk and hair decorate it, giving the object an animal shape, reminiscent to a certain extent of the look of the warthog. The base of the handle is covered with a work of basketry relating to a particularly advanced aestheticism. We can also note the beautiful patina of seniority crossing the object.
