"Citipati Mask - Himalayas / Nepal"
Mask with a grimacing expression evoking the Citipati skulls. Symbolizing in the Buddhist Culture of the Himalayas the impermanence of life and the eternal cycle of life and death, we find this kind of masks in homes in order to protect the family circle. The Citipati represent both the eternal dance of death as well as perfect consciousness. The object is made of wood, covered with a thin layer of crusty patina. One can appreciate the remains of a red chroma around the eyes and the mouth.
