An object worthy for tableware museum: this large wine cooler, imagined from a large tub of opalized and polished crystal, with strapped wooden planks, invaded by vines; a Baccarat model, 1878, (see last photo), unsigned, massive and still weighing more than 6 kilos!
It is set with well-chiseled bronze or brass mounting, formerly silvered, in which 2 large fold-out handles are securely anchored. Inside the crystal tub, centered mount for a painted tin lining allowing the bottle of champagne to remain dry in ice tub. And to keep it very cool, a cover in two fold-out butterfly parts, formerly silvered, encloses the neck of bottle. Spectacular ....
The object is in condition of discovery, 3 of the screw ends are missing from the handles, but there remains one original model that we should still be able to find. Silver plating is just an old memory.
In terms of crystal, superb, no flaws except for the vines feet, the shards of which have most often been polished-ground, which does not attract the eye. (photos)
Dimensions: H: 33cm, or 41cm with the handles x D: 19cm x Width with the handles: 23cm. Total weight: 7.4 kg.
