"India XIXth : Bronze "shiva Nataraja""
19th century India: “Shiva Nataraja”, bronze with a high content of melted and chiseled copper 30 X 26 X 11 cm. This representation of Shiva as a cosmic dancer has been very popular for many centuries in southern India. Its attributes, such as the small drum in the shape of an hourglass, the flame and the dwarf Mulayaka representing ignorance that it crushes with its right foot or the circle of flames are codified and refer to Hindu mythology. Two forearms were broken and badly reattached (one of them was no longer even attached), but the fineness of the carving and the quality of the casting shows that it is an old proof which deserves a good restoration.
