Old Kirman Raver Rug, Wool And Silk, Kadjar Period, Persia, 130 Cm X 207 Cm, 19th Century

Carpet from Kirman or Kerman, Iran circa 1890-1900 in wool and silk, hand-knotted, measuring 130 cm wide by 207 cm long, for a density of approximately 650,000 knots per m2.
Although originating from the Iranian city of Kirman whose name these rugs bear, a major production region, no piece is more than one hundred and fifty years old today.
Indeed carpet weaving only started in this region around 1880.
Our model, although showing general wear, is nonetheless a sublime artefact of Iranian culture and the creation of these Kirman lavar .
The Kirman is often decorated with flowers and most of the time has a medallion that stands out against a plain background.
The motifs of the medallion are repeated in the border and the four spandrels (corners).
Some of these rugs also feature large animal scenes. Our model, a kirman raver or kirman lavar is from the town of Raver north of Kirman, he is just a seedling of flowers accompanied by a magnificent medallion, of great delicacy and great beauty. .
Kerman is the largest city in southeastern Iran and is the capital of the province of the same name.
