"Charles Euphrasie Kuwasseg (draveil 1838-1904 Paris)"
View of a Mediterranean port Signed lower left C. Kuwasseg son Oil on canvas, 39.5 x 67 cm Parcel exhibition label n°401 on the back PROVENANCE - Private collection until October 2021 THE ARTIST Son of the painter Austrian Karl-Joseph Kuwasseg, after working with his father he joined as a sailor. Returned to France in 1883, he was a pupil of Durand-Brager and Isabey. He made his debut in 1855 at the Paris Salon, of which he remained a faithful exhibitor. He devoted himself more particularly to the study of gales on the coasts of Brittany and in the North Sea, but also works reproducing landscapes of the Normandy countryside or the suburbs of Paris. He also worked in collaboration with Poilpot on various panoramas. He regularly exhibited at the salons of French Artists and obtained a third medal in 1892. His delicate and strong talent at the same time earned him the esteem of all amateurs. THE WORK This view of a port animated by numerous ships and characters, takes up the rich maritime vocabulary of the artist and his romantic vision of nature. The signature "C Kuwasseg Fils" places this painting before the death of the artist's father in 1877. The presence of French pavilions could give an indication of the unidentified site, but probably an imaginary view. http://philippeleclercqantiquites.com/produit/charles-euphrasie-kuwasseg-draveil-1838-1904-paris
