These daggers are sometimes called "genoeia" in reference to Genoese stilettos.
BLADE: It is a blade from European origin, as almost always on this type of weapon.
Here, it is a strong blade with 3 sides in hollow pan, dating from the 18th century. Probably a sword blade (?) or maybe a bayonet blade. In any case, it was chosen carefully because of its robustness, which made it possible to give this dagger an above normal length. Blade length 36 cm
HILT : It is made of blackened wood, probably Atlas cedar
At both ends of the hilt, chased brass mounts, a ferrule-guard, and a triangular pommel in an old work style.
SCABBARD : It is made of wood covered with a chiseled brass sheet.
Some very old repairs, which show that this dagger was worn.
The end of the scabbard is covered with a kind of chape, the patterns of which repeat exactly those of the pommel.
Two suspension rings near the scabbard entrance.
This weapon is therefore an old work, dating from the 19th century.
The traces of use and the repairs show that this weapon was worn for a long time.
It is absolutely not a production of the "souvenir" type for tourists.
Beautiful traditional weapon, old and unrestored much rarer than the koummyas.
