"Alfred Casile (1848-1909) Quays Of The Seine"
The atmosphere of the quays of the Seine in the 19th century by an artist born in Marseilles, but a great specialist in northern landscapes, Alfred Casile. Signed lower left, it represents a barge on the banks of the Seine in Paris, with the Invalides in the distance. Alfred Casile was born in Marseille where he studied under Philippe-Auguste Jeanron at the École des Beaux-Arts. First employed at the Compagnie des docks, he went to Paris in 1879. He became a full-fledged painter from 1880 where he made a first shipment, Une Falaise en Normandie, at the Salon des artistes français. Based in Paris, he was a pupil of Antoine Guillemet and met the painters Camille Pissarro, Alfred Sisley and Claude Monet. After a trip to Italy, he returned to Marseilles where he married in 1891 Constance Dutoint, a young girl from Brussels he met in Paris. His youngest daughter will marry the painter Louis-Mathieu Verdilhan. He stayed in Belgium and painted in Brussels, Antwerp, Ghent, Blankenberge and Bruges. Back in Marseille where he settled permanently on Boulevard de la Corderie, he indulged in absinthe and died on June 1, 1909. gray lights and dimmed hues.
