"Stele In Bronze And Marble, "
High relief print entitled "La Pensée", signed by the French sculptor Henri Chapu (1833 / 1891), prolific and recognized artist under the Second Empire. His works were notably produced by the greatest foundries of the time, such as that of the Thiébaut Frères, whose stamp adorns the left side. He represents here an allegorical figure of Thought, in the guise of a young woman wearing an elegant drapery in the antique style, and holding a parchment in her hand. At her feet are books and a quill, attributes related to reading and writing. Behind her we can make out a bust of Minerva, the Roman deity of wisdom and intelligence. This bronze is mounted on a red marble base veined with white. This delicate work will enchant you with the finesse of its details and the quality of its realization. ******** Period: Late 19th century Excellent condition.
