Object description :

"Extendable Table End Of The XVII Eme Century In Walnut And Slate"
Beautiful louis XIII table with extensions in walnut commonly called Swiss table.
this type of table is very particular and adapted to our modern era: namely that it offers the possibility of receiving 4 closed guests and 8 when the extensions are out, in addition to the top being placed on a trapezoidal or pyramidal base, with a height of 76 cm there is no problem of discomfort even for tall people as to the passage of the legs or knees.
this very clever table therefore has two Italian-style extensions incorporated under the top, very handy, you can pull out one extension or both depending on the number of guests.
it upgrades automatically!
the solid walnut extensions are mounted with a miter cut, they work perfectly. the thick top mounted with a miter cut receives in its center a large and thick slate plate contrasting with the walnut border.
top and extensions are overflowing and placed on a dovetailed walnut belt enclosing the mechanism and receiving a drawer at each end.
fretted crosspieces lighten the whole under the chest and frame the trapezoidal base in a louis XIII rosary.
a superb turned and flared molded base with low crosspieces in astragalus like a cat bar which are original, take a good look at them, you can see the wear due to the friction of the feet of the guests!
finally this base rests on 4 ball feet or rave feet. beautiful wax patina.
preventive treatment with xylophene but the walnut is not attacked.
completely revised this practical and handy table works perfectly, even ikea has never done better!
a small restoration at an angle of the slate plate, restoration of use and maintenance without modification or alterations.
a brilliant and timeless 17th century table that you can combine with many styles, even beautiful modern ones.
