Pedestal With The Four Evangelists End Of The XVII Eme Century In Oak

A superb work of Flemish sculpture dating from the end of the 17th century:
very beautiful pedestal in carved mesh oak and bearing a rare representation of the symbols accompanying the classic iconography of the four evangelists.
The angel for Matthew, the lion for Mark, the bull for Luke and the eagle for John.
a very interesting and finely carved pedestal:
the angel appears at the top and overlooks the lion on the left, the eagle in the center the bull on the right even if it is somewhat naively treated, we can clearly see its horns.
the whole is harmonious and sculpted in a block of oak.
a slit appears on the head of the angel but it is not very important and two small ends are missing from the wings of the angel.
Otherwise very good general condition and very beautiful waxed patina.
it's amazing to find the lion and the winged bull also like the angel and the eagle.
the result is superb and adorned with a decor of acanthus leaves and staples in relief, resting on three small ball feet.
a very beautiful work of rather atypical sculpture bringing together the symbols of the four evangelists.
