Imposing Academy of a Seated Young Man, signed, dated 1885 and framed with a sober baguette – 105 x 60

Softness and suave humanity emanate from this portrait –

Great mastery of chiaroscuro – Shimmering colors in a sober and elegant palette –

A certificate in Italian is attached to the back with the stamp of a court mentioning that H Ganz was a pupil of Legros -

A dated and stamped tissue paper envelope is slipped into the frame - With an address in London where he lived -

Signed bottom right - Very Good condition -

Little has come down to us about this English painter and engraver (1864 - 1947) -

Born in Marylebone, he had a musician father - H Ganz studied with Alphonse Legros in the Slade school of Fine Art London (1883 – 1886)

These works are in private collections in Venice, Dresden, London and Paris –
