"Boulevard Des Batignolles 1931, R. Haasen (died In 1944) After Jules Adler (1865-1952)"
Numbered 47/100 Very fine proof engraved in a large format by R. Haasen after a work painted by Jules Adler. The bustling boulevard des Batignolles in Winter is depicted from above, as if the artist were on the balcony of a building overlooking the boulevard. We find the same atmosphere there as in his painting “Les communicantes”. A group of characters occupies the center of the painting while a person or a couple are represented offset on the right or on the left of the scene. This construction creates a real dynamic in the whole painting. One can imagine that the character seen in profile, heading towards the crowd, is a self-protrait of the painter. Proofs of the engraver's etching are kept at the National Library Richelieu. Ref. : BNF, RICHELIEU, SNR-3 HAAG –HACQUEL 888
