"An Oak Panel With A Man's Head (christ?), 17th Century"
Very expressive ! If religious, this could be Veronica's Rostro Divino/ The Veil of Veronica. It is essentially the disembodied head of Jesus. The origins of this image and this devotion are probably linked to the Shroud of Turin and/or the cult of pre-Christian leaders. If secular, it may be a parliamentary puritan celebrating the execution of Charles I 27.5x25.5 cm Condition: repaired crack (see pictures)Source: M. Scott van Wagenen
