"Apothecary Mortar, High Quality, 17th Century, Listed."
Beautiful cast bronze mortar, with 5 buttresses in caryatids, alternately surrounding one head of fauna in relief between 4 flowers, and a medal: Hercules and the doe of Cyrenia. Small threaded round foot, overflowing upper border decorated with flowers. A similar mortar, reproduced in the recent beautiful documentation of 3 friends, (photo) is attributed to the Master Founders of Le Puy, IC/IF, mid-17th century
