Joseph Marius Hurard was born in Avignon in 1887. At a very young age, he showed a talent for drawing, and rubbed shoulders with elders like Meissonnier and Chabaud, he painted with great ease and was quickly noticed. From 1917, Joseph Hurard exhibited in Marseille galleries, and success also came to Lyon, Bordeaux, Paris, to independents and the National Society of Fine Arts and to merchants in the capital. Now living from his art, he settled permanently in Martigues in 1932, where he died in 1956.
