19th century bronze sculpture made by French sculptor Charles Monginot using the chryselephantine technique is encrusted on an onyx stone plinth. The face and arms of the sculpture are carved in ivory. There is an author's signature.Charles Monginot (1825-1900) was an acclaimed French painter and sculptor, particularly famous for his portraits, still lifes and genre works. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris with Thomas Couture. Becomes friends with Edouard Manet until the end of his life.
