Otto Schoff (1884-1938)
Schoff grew up in Bremen, and studied as a decorator at the School of Decorative Arts in Bremen, among others with Joseph Högg, then in Frankfurt am Main and in Darmstadt with Otto Linnemann and Friedrich Wilhelm Kleukens. Between 1909 and 1914 he was taught by Emil Orlik at the Institute of Education of the Royal Museum of Applied Arts in Berlin, and in 1912 he received the KKG Medal of Recognition and a scholarship for Paris from the city of Bremen. In 1914, he exhibited at the Graphic Cabinet J.B.Neumann in Berlin. His artistic activity was limited by the beginning of the First World War. It was not until 1920 that many graphic leaflets and folders were created, among others by Fritz Gurlitt and Alfred Fleichtheim. In the following years Schoff participated in the Great Berlin Art Exhibition, the Berlin Art Fair and the Secession of Berlin. Schoff died on 3 July 1938, after the Gestapo seized part of his paintings in the Nollendorfplatz workshop the day before.
