An interesting Japanese hibachi or small household heater. Sand was poured into a non-combustible metal insert and pieces of glowing coal were inserted. It is probably made of Japanese Keyaki elm, which is characterized by its great hardness and strong grain. It is further adorned with laki maki-e and mother-of-pearl decorations.
