Pupil of Evariste Luminais and Henri Harpignies, Alexandre Nozal made his debut at the Salon in 1876. Best known as a landscape painter, he was able to overcome post-Impressionism, of which he is one of the representatives. His travels have taken him, among other things, to Brittany, Berry, Normandy, and the south of France, Provence, Corsica, but also to Algeria. Painter of water, he notably renders his impressions on the banks of rivers, rivers, ponds and seashores, as is the case in our work. The vegetation is omnipresent, available in different shades of green, often very vivid. If Alexandre Nozal is above all a landscape painter, some portraits are also part of his production. An important retrospective exhibition of his works took place in 1972 at the departmental museum of Oise in Beauvais, which benefited from a bequest from the Nozal heirs. His works are also present in the museums of Bourges, Châlon en Champagne, Montpellier and in Paris at the Petit Palais, as well as at the Palais des Beaux Arts in Lille.
