India, early 19th century, very pretty bronze oil lamp used for the rites of the Hindu religion. The very elaborate decoration in bas-relief represents on the facade the goddess Lakshmi in her Gajalakshmi form (anointed by two elephants) and, on the side, two small figures in a geometric decoration. On the back, the lamp is decorated with a relief pattern also representing the goddess Gajalakshmi. Beautiful patina of use. Good condition.
Height 13.4cm. Width 9cm. Depth 9cm. The scale witness in the last photograph is a small model of a lighter from a well-known brand.
