Jeanne De Soomer Schaerbeek (Belgium), 1925 -?
Born of Flemish parents from a modest background, she was self-taught in everything, which allowed her to take up very diverse activities. At the artistic level, she was interested, in turn, in sculpture, modeling and music, but it is painting that allows her to express herself most naturally. She paints in oil very diverse subjects animated by a host of characters and gladly draws her inspiration from the folklore and history of Belgium. In a desire for narrative clarity and legibility of the scene, she orders her space by rejecting all notions of depth, proportion and perspective. She does not hesitate to fold down the plans, divide her canvas into registers and even introduce short explanatory texts.
Many exhibitions. She has exhibited regularly since 1976 at the Galerie Dierickx in Brussels, at the Maison des Arts Spontaneous et Naïves in Brussels in 1979, etc.
Biblio: Brussels seen by the Naive painters.
