Late Seventeenth Century Wooden Sculpture Representing San Pedro De Alcantara flag

Object description :

"Late Seventeenth Century Wooden Sculpture Representing San Pedro De Alcantara"
This late 17th century sculpture depicts San Pedro of Alacantara, who was a Spanish priest of the Order of Friars Minor. After attending the University of Salamanca he became an appreciated preacher: his homilies, inspired by the prophetic books and the wisdom books of the Bible, were preferably addressed to the humblest sections of the population. From his reform introduced in the Franciscan family the branch of the barefoot originated. In 1553, he spent more than two years in solitude, subsequently embarked on a journey barefoot to Rome and obtained permission from Pope Julius III to start the foundation of some poor convents in Spain under the jurisdiction of the general of the conventuals. He was proclaimed a saint in 1669 by Pope Clement IX. The statue is a wooden sculpture, with glass eyes.
