Beautiful Nail Protector, chased and pierced silver, partially enamelled in blue, with leave, flower and fruit motifs, dating from the 19th century.
Dimensions: 7cm, diameter: 1.8cm adjustable.
Good general condition, the object has been used, as you can see in our detailed photos, part of the enamel (or butterfly wings) is missing.
In ancient China, long fingernails were a way to men and women to enhance their looks and show off their wealth. A long fingernail was a sign of a person so wealthy that he or she did not have to earn a living through manual labor.
