Set Of Six Biedermeier Chairs, Cherry, Gold Plated, South Germany Circa 1820 flag

Object description :

"Set Of Six Biedermeier Chairs, Cherry, Gold Plated, South Germany Circa 1820"
Magnificent set of six Biedermeier dining chairs from the early South German Empire around 1820.

Very special are the gilt ornamental faces, which are carved into the side of the backrests. On the front these have profiles of faces which have been plated in gold. From the back you only see the curved profile of the solid cherry wood plate. At the bottom of the crossbar, there is a gold-plated curved decor, which has also been carved into the wood. The six chairs have been crafted from solid cherry wood and have been painstakingly hand polished with shellac (French Polish). The upholstery is made new according to the old methods. For the fabric, a plain and precious black felt with double piping was chosen. Very extraordinary and beautiful museum pieces, but probably not suitable for long daily restoration sessions due to the careful construction and some old repairs in the construction.
