Important Ewer, Central Asia, Copper Ht 49.5 Cm, Engraved On All Sides, 19th Century

Important Ewer in formerly tinned red copper, decorated on all sides with eight mandorlas on the body and with tribal motifs, stylized flowers and fine Greek.
Three medallions are engraved with beautiful ancient Arabic calligraphy which appears to be Mohaghagh style.
This style is part of the "broken" styles (shekasteh) and was systematized by Ibn Moghleh.
Some calligraphers consider the Mohaghagh style to be the father of Islamic calligraphy styles.
Mohaghagh is the closest style to simple Kufic writing, where the shape of the letters is regular and thick, with regular gaps and without the different letters overlapping each other.
Our model comes from Central Asia and more certainly from the Tajik or Kazak regions.
A handle cast in Esse, beautiful engravings and a patina due to time underline the object.
The dominic-shaped cap supports a sharp, smooth fretel.
Very nice bronze water outlet. the object is of particular interest in its decoration.
This Aftafa ewer or jug was and is mainly used for ablutions, washing the face and hands, during religious ceremonies.
