Object description :

"Small Bonheur-du-jour In Mahogany, Louis XVI Style - Mid-19th Century"
Lady's piece of furniture called "Bonheur-du-jour" in the Louis XVI style, in solid mahogany and mahogany veneer. Its belt has a central drawer whose front, in vertical mahogany burl veneer, is surrounded by a light molding. Two bronze pulling rings, beaded with rosette in the center, frame an authentic lock in working order, benefiting from an ovalized entrance surmounted by a Louis XVI knot. The sides of this belt are identical and recall the front of the central drawer. The set rests on sheathed feet with stopped grooves with in the upper part a molded bronze ring and ending in a square shoe. The top is composed of a frame in solid mahogany with a miter cut, lightly molded, the center of which benefits from a mahogany burl veneer deployed like an open book, for perfect symmetry. When opened, two pin hinges unfold and allow the tablet to be positioned on the central drawer. We then discover a writing space lined with red leather with blind stamp, golden stamp and angles, framed by a mahogany mitred edge. The upper part of this lady's desk has two small doors with a solid mahogany frame, miter cut, with coving on the inside and darkened with an original mercury mirror. These are fitted with vertical entrances in bronze, beaded and surmounted by a Louis XVI knot. The original locks are in working order. These doors open onto offset brass lighters and reveal a storage space inside, consisting of an adjustable shelf on a rack. Below, we find two drawers with molded strips and bowl button in the center. This upper part is provided with uprights with stopped splines. The sides with a large panel respect the proportions and composition of the front. This Bonheur-du-jour is crowned with white Carrara marble surrounded by an openwork brass gallery positioned at the back, on the sides and with a return on the front. Refined and elegant, this small quality piece of furniture with sculpted ornamentation will delight with its functionality and ideal dimensions. ******** Period: Mid-19th century Excellent condition after restoration in our workshop.
