"Diane Huntress Bronze XIXth"
Bronze statue personifying the huntress goddess Diana wearing a crescent moon, holding her bow, an arrow in her hand. Old cast iron edition (mid 19th century) featuring the famous statue present in the Louvre Museum. Original patina, beautifully presented set (slight mark on the neck), Houdon signature on the base. Born in Versailles in 1741 Jean Antoine Houdon was introduced to sculpture at the age of 9 with Jean Baptiste Pigalle. A student at the Royal School of Paris showing immense talent (one of the greatest sculptors of the Age of Enlightenment) he will be recognized in many countries and his masterpieces are part of the French heritage.
