"Corpus Christi, French School, 17th Century"
This 17th century sculpture of Christ is in carved wood with remnants of polychromy. The arms and part of the legs are missing. Intended for private devotion, this statuette represents the crucified Christ with a dramatic and expressive face and a captivating and realistic body (corpus in Latin). This is a finely sculpted work with a realistic and well-detailed body anatomy. Traces of nail on the back following its position on an old cross that has disappeared. Overall in good condition with some inconspicuous restorations (head and left arm glued) and some old vrilette holes.
