Louis Cabié, artist renowned in France and particularly in the Bordeaux region, even during his lifetime, circulated in the great southwest throughout his life. A pupil of Harpignies whose passion for vegetation can be found in the manner of the Barbizon school, he will transcribe until his death the simplicity of picturesque French landscapes. Spectacular trees, forest atmospheres, places steeped in history, captivating valleys, or even a landscape in its simplest form that it will know how to bring out a vital contrast.
At the beginning of his career, when the painter was still only an amateur, the moors which surround Bordeaux to the west, will serve as a playground and testing ground. It is certainly around 1885 according to the invoice and the type of signature that Louis Cabié represents this place which he places in other paintings in Pessac. The central oak is the main element, in winter as in summer, in this landscape which must today be proud of a few strips of asphalt and industrial buildings… It is here a testimony of the Landes rurality with the guardian shepherd his sheep in a landscape of oaks, gorse and of course pines. The whole under a sky emerging from some storm clouds gives a presence and formidable depth to this great composition.
Presented in an American box in light wood giving a modern aspect to the whole.
