MASUI Paul-Auguste is a Luxembourgish-Belgian artist born in Differdange in 1888 and died in 1981 in Uccle. He was a Luxembourgish-Belgian painter, pastellist, watercolourist and graphic designer. Landscapes, town and village views, figures, including workers. Got his start as a graphic artist with etchings, woodcuts and lithographs. was an officer in the Grenadiers from 1909 to 1919, was wounded in the First World War and remained in London from 1915 to 1919 for convalescence. In 1917 he published 'De Legende van Tijl Uilenspiegel', illustrated with 55 woodcuts. A large number of lithographs were produced in 1919 and 1920, mainly studies of construction workers, views of shipyards and streets. Between 1918 and 1922, he mainly practiced the pastel technique to improve his color work. In 1922, he also released his first oil paintings. Bright color palette. Was successively influenced by symbolism, expressionism and realism. The design appears structured, clean and slightly synthesized. Wide brushstroke, contrasting color palette. Installed in 1928 in his studio in Crabbegat/Uccle and will only leave it for annual summer stays in Provence from 1946 to 1976. From 1913, he is a member of the Royal Society of Belgian Aquafortists. In 1935, he was responsible for decorating the Brabant pavilion at the Universal Exhibition in Brussels. Work at the Salle des Estampes in Brussels and in the Museums of Brussels, Ixelles, Mons, Tournai, Verviers, Quimper, Carnavalet in Paris. His artistic activity ceased in December 1978.
