"Gouache Late Eighteenth Century Or Beginning Of The Nineteenth Century."
This gouache represents the ruins of the theater of Pompeii with Vesuvius in the background. Produced at the same time as the previous ones that we offer, it is by the same artist. Many young painters went to Italy to meet local artists to perfect their techniques and immerse themselves in the places where many great masters of the art were born. It was a long trip, called the grand tour, during which they had the opportunity to paint famous sites and monuments that they brought back in their notebooks. This gouache is undoubtedly the work of one of them and perfectly illustrates this passage. Full of freshness, it is framed by a rear Louis XVI style gilt wood strip. Late 18th or early 19th century period. Frame dimensions 52 cm x 40 cm, gouache dimensions 22 cm x 34 cm.
