"Two-body Cabinet With Withdrawal, Directoire Style - Mid-19th Century"
Solid mahogany cabinet in two parts, with a lower part, wider, whose framed door is miter cut and the sides are chamfered, from the inside. The central panel consists of two elements joined in the middle. The lock, the finely worked entrance and the key are original and in bronze. On each side, there are two pilasters with capital and chiseled element, in bronze, at the top and bottom. The set rests on a plinth and a wooden base. The solid top of this first part has a mitred frame. On this rests the upper part, set back, which has a door with a chamfered miter cut. The lower panel consists of two parts joined in the middle, and the upper part, of a mercury mirror. Pilasters of the same finish also frame this second part, topped with a chamfer. The interior is composed of three adjustable shelves on racks with a mahogany drawer, with key and original lock. The back of the cabinet is oak. Sober and beautifully made, this two-part piece of furniture can be used in a library, living room, for storing books as well as in a bedroom.
