"Important Bronze "
Large bronze sculpture with brown patina on a white marble base representing a wolf walking in the snow. This work is signed Valton on the marble. The wolf appears on the lookout, ears erect and tail lowered. He follows footprints carved in marble. Its powerful musculature shows under its thick coat. Symbol of freedom, intelligence and strength, the wolf is also an animal strongly present in the collective imagination. Charles Valton (1851-1918) is a French sculptor known for his works in the animalist style, this movement of the 19th century which presents animals with realistic anatomy in full action. He creates many small-scale models of animals, using white marble as a base to represent snow. Valton grew up in Paris and spent most of his time at the Jardin des Plantes. He studied with the directors of the Paris zoo. Valton's work was regularly exhibited at the Paris Salons between 1868 and 1914. "Wolf Walking in the Snow" is a charismatic figurative sculpture that catches the eye.
