Set of plates chosen from the decoration projects that the Manufacture de Sèvres has reproduced from the compositions of painters attached to the House and especially from those of artists outside its staff. The new direction given to the work at Sèvres dates back to 1894. These harmonious plates, where all the resources of stylization are used, show that the Manufacture was able to take the best from the new doctrines. Photogravure allows the transfer of an image onto a copper plate thanks to a photosensitive gelatin. It is an intaglio printing process, like chisel or intaglio engraving, and not in relief like woodcut or typography. This means that the ink is retained in the recesses of the printing form, and not on its surface. The image is framed according to a very fine frame and the copper form exposed, then subjected to the bite of an acid.
