"Bas-relief In Sandstone, Renaissance, France, XVIth-xviith Century"
Sandstone bas-relief, possibly from the facade of a building. The relief probably shows a fragment of a larger grotesque ornament - an ornament of Roman origin with vegetal tendrils (usually acanthus or grape), vases, mythical animals, figures and other elements of the ancient world. We see here the torso of a woman (a mythological mermaid?) emerging from the capitelle, she holds in her hand a fragment of cartridge. The rest of the bas-relief is covered with a deep and fine floral ornament. Renaissance, France, 16th-17th century. Height 40.5 cm, width 52 cm, depth 7 cm. State of preservation as seen in the photos, relatively good, has minor losses and natural traces of stone erosion. Form and cost of delivery to be agreed.
