"Radu Florea, Portrait Of An Old Woman (# Romania Romanian Granny)"
The Romanian painter Radu Florea was born in Târgu Mureș (Transylvania) in 1963. After having participated in numerous exhibitions in Romania and across Europe, he was especially noticed from the beginning of the 2000s. If at first, Radu Florea is marked by the art of the Fauves and German expressionism, it will evolve towards a non-figurative gestural painting reflecting flows of energy. It shows his admiration for American abstract expressionism and more particularly the work of Willem de Kooning. In 2016, he exhibited at the Elite Art Gallery in Bucharest, which occasionally publishes a catalog on the artist. This portrait of a very tender elderly woman is, as the artist confirmed to us (by mail), a work from her debut which took part in an exhibition in Belgium in 1993. Made in oil on a canvas fixed to a panel , the work bears a label on the back with a number (28), the name of the artist and the title in Romanian: Portret de batrina (Portrait of an old woman). Note that the frame and the panel are nailed together, in an original assembly.
29 x 22.5 cm (frame), 27 x 20 cm (panel)
