The painter of this painting was inspired by capriccio scenes by Giovanni Paolo Panini (Piacenza 1691-Rom 1765), a painter and architect. Most of his works, especially those of ruins, have a fanciful and unreal embellishment characteristic of capriccio themes. His style influenced other vedutisti (large scale painters), such as his pupil Antonio Joli, as well as Canaletto and Bernardo Bellotto. The whole surmounted by an arched cresting decorated with a gilt bronze laurel wreath. Antique mirror glass.
