Jean-François Raffaëli began his active life as an actor and singer under the name of Raffa but also took classes at the Paris School of Fine Arts. Close to the artists of his time, the witnesses of his marriage are Albert Bartholomé and Edgar Degas. The latter invites him to Impressionist exhibitions, then is excluded to get closer to the group of XX in Brussels. He had a brilliant career and became rich, buying a private mansion on rue de Courcelles that all of Paris frequented. In 1904, he founded the Society of Original Color Engravings.
