Pierre Born on December 16, 1854 in Gavernac (Aveyron). Died in 1942. 19th-20th centuries. French. Sculptor of figures, busts, statuettes, sculptor of monuments, engraver of medals. He was a pupil of Jouffroy, Chapu and Falguière. Member of the Committee and of the sculpture jury of the Salon des Artistes Français, member of the Institute in 1905, he was also director of the Villa Medici in Rome (1921-1933), where he had replaced A. Besnard, and where Landowski succeeded him. He made his debut in Paris at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1875, of which he later became a member in 1886. He obtained a third class medal in 1884, the Prix de Rome in 1884, a second class medal in 1889, first class in 1890. The Denys Puech Museum in Rodez devoted a major retrospective to him in 1922. Knight of the Legion of Honor in 1892, Officer in 1899, Grand Prix in 1900 at the Universal Exhibition in Paris, Commander of the Legion of Honor in 1908. Worldly portraitist, defender of academism, he is especially appreciated for his female busts. Museums: Amiens, Bayonne, Caen, Montauban, Nantes, New York, Valenciennes and Rodez Denis Puech Museum.
