"Peru, Mochica Culture, Ancient Portrait Vase Containing A Male Head."
Peru, Mochica culture, superb and ancient portrait vase depicting a male head in red terracotta surrounded by a headdress forming a band above the forehead and covering the back of the skull decorated with geometric patterns in shades of dark red on a light beige background. This headdress is adorned with two highly embossed conical attributes. The piece is hollow, wide open at the top of the head and having two small openings at the mouth. The part being tilted backwards, it is possible to keep water or any other liquid there. Leaning forward, it allows it to be discharged through the mouth and could therefore have the use of a sprinkler. The whole is of very good quality, both in the realism of the face and in the judicious arrangement of the geometric decoration. Provenance: collection from the Loire Valley. Height 9 cm. Good condition except for slight normal wear and no impact as well as a slight friction on the end of the nose. We take particular care of our packaging by using optimum protection. The shipment is made with insurance included.
