"Rare Marble Color Chart Used In Cabinetmaking In The XVIII And XIX Century"
Color chart of rare marbles used in cabinetmaking in the 18th and 19th centuries. Tray made up of 35 tiles of 12 cm x 12 cm inserted in a Carrara frame. These marbles come, in part, from the collection of samples that Jacques Dubarry de Lasalle made to write his two works, "Identification of marbles" and "Use of marbles" (H.Vial editions). It took him four years and travel 60,000 km by car to find old quarries, visit old marble works and collect precious testimonies and information. We currently have 70 varieties. For some we only have 4 squares. For others, we deplore a loss of material of 70% due to their fragility (some marbles were extracted more than 300 years ago). We offer two versions: -A 3 cm thick top on a square top with 36 squares, with or without coffee table legs. -A top of 35 tiles with fiberglass reinforcement sandwiched and 1.7 cm thick for a version to be displayed on a vertical plane. The trays are delivered with the list of names and geographical origin of the marbles that compose them. As an option, Roman numerals can be engraved under each tile to facilitate identification. NB: Under Louis XIV the marble activity was a royal monopoly. (see the history of the king's stores). From this reign and until the middle of the 19th century, when considering the manufacture of quality furniture, the first choice is the nature of the marble. The choice of the latter, in the context of a fireplace project, determines the color of the wall coverings and fabrics. These color charts are made for the attention of professionals and enlightened individuals but also and above all to keep a physical trace of this noble material.
