(half-title and title) - XVI (preface by Anatole France) - 111 pp. - (1) f. (finished printing). Perfect copy in a very beautiful binding with Art Deco motifs, unfortunately unsigned. Printed in 500 copies, 1 of 250 on Arches vellum (No. 405 followed by a handwritten monogram). 21 compositions by Paul Avril (Vignette on the cover repeated on the title page, Frontispiece, 5 headings, 5 inserts, 4 in-texts and 5 culs-de-lampe). Our copy has 5 states of each illustration (final, pure etching, 2 states before the letter and a state with remark). It is also enriched with: - 1 single trial print of the vignette with an annotation signed by the artist in pencil: “Epreuves d'essai, single print, P. Avril”. - 1 lithograph print for the insert on page 82 with slightly different drawing - 2 pages of original pencil drawings; the first representing 6 small subjects and the second 5, taken from certain remarks of the engravings. - 21 original pencil drawings, all signed, these drawings were used for the remarks of each engraving.
