Born in Châlons-sur-Saône in 1892 Augustin Burlet grew up in the Croix-Rousse area of Lyon and studied at the School of Fine Arts in Lyon with Adolphe Louis Castex-Desgrange. After his studies, he left for Lausanne to do an apprenticeship with a Swiss glassmaker. After the war, Burlet established a stained glass workshop in the Croix-Rousse. Several churches in Lyon and its surroundings are enriched by Burlet's stained glass windows. This is an intimate portrait of "Lilo", Marie-Adélaïde, his wife, from around 1918.
