Ruins of the Saint-Paul-Notre-Dame-des-Miracles church in Orléans - 1944.
Original chisel monogrammed "LJS 1944" in the plate at the bottom left.
Print mounted by the previous collector in a very thick 65 x 50 cm mat, this mat is glued on the 4 sides to the cardboard below, so we were unable to check all the margins.
Dimensions: Copper: 238 x 347 mm - Sight margins: 290 x 400 mm.
In lower margin in pencil: "Artist proof" on the left, signed on the right.
Small spikes of foxing in the plate, very slight sunstroke due to an old assembly, very good condition otherwise.
This is most certainly a print from one of the plates from Album XV engravings of the ruins of Orléans, a collection published in Orléans by the author in 1947, 15 engravings and a woodcut on the page of title, 1 vol. in folio in sheets - folder and slipcase, printed in 30 numbered copies + a few off-the-shelf copies. In fact, a print run of each of the fifteen engravings numbered from 1 to 75 was also made
Louis Joseph Soulas (1905-1954), French painter-engraver of international renown, illustrated a large number of works about five hundred pages in which he sings about his native Beauce (sources: official site dedicated to the artist).
