"Aman-jean The Woman In The Mask"
"The Woman with a Mask", very beautiful work by Nori MALO-RENAULT (1871-1953) after Edmond AMAN-JEAN (1860-1936). It is an etching, drypoint and aquatint in color on vellum measuring 31.5 x 25.5 cm (bowl), 43 x 35 cm (sheet) and 52 x 43 cm (frame). It is signed in pencil lower right and numbered lower left (15/50). Nori MALOT-RENAULT, born Honorine Césarine TIAN, was a student at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Marseille and then at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris. In 1897, she married the pastel artist Emile Auguste RENAULT, known as MALO-RENAULT, and helped her husband print his illustrations. She exhibited colored etchings and drypoints as well as bindings at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1897, then from 1902 to 1912, as well as at the Salon de la Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts from 1902 to 1912.
